DAY 1: TRAVEL DAY

Arrange your international flight to depart from the US on or before June 16th in order to arrive in London by the tour start date of June 17th.

DAY 2: ARRIVAL

Arrive at London Heathrow Airport by 2 p.m. Travel to view the extraordinary Neolithic henge monument containing 3 stone circles around the village of Avebury. Take an evening stroll for a romantic view of Salisbury Cathedral, whose spire is the highest in the UK. Overnight in Salisbury.

DAY 3: BATH

Immerse yourself in all that the ancient city of Bath has to offer from the Roman hot springs to the Jane Austen Center. Visit the Royal Crescent - the most esteemed address in Victorian Bath, the Pulteney Bridge - one of only four bridges containing shops, and Bath Abbey. Overnight in Corsham

DAY 4: THE COTSWOLDS AND STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

Enjoy the quintessential British village of Bourton-on-the-Water, with its pretty shops and scenic stream running through the village center. After lunch in Stow-on-the-Wold, travel to Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. Overnight at Castle Bromwich Hall.

DAY 5: PEAK DISTRICT

Take in the grandeur of Chatsworth House, portrayed as Darby’s home in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Wander the magnificent grounds, which include gardens, waterfalls, mazes and more. Stroll through the stone circles at Arbor Low and Nine Sisters. Overnight in Buxton.

DAY 6: LAKE DISTRICT

After visiting the Pavilion Gardens, travel to the Lake District to explore Wray Castle and wander around the Castlerigg stone circle. Spend the afternoon in Keswick, surrounded by mountains and the beautiful lake of Derwentwater. Overnight in Ambleside.

DAY 7: LAKE DISTRICT

Spend some quality time in nature. Walk the paths of Beatrix Potter’s Tarn Hows that inspired such characters as Peter Rabbit, Tiggy-winkle and Jemima Puddle-duck. Visit William Wordsworth’s tomb in the peaceful St. Oswald churchyard and taste Grasmere gingerbread nearby.  Overnight in Ambleside.

DAY 8: BRONTË COUNTRY

Located in the home where the 3 famous sisters grew up, learn about the lives and works of Charlotte, Anne and Emily at the Brontë Parsonage Museum and nearby Haworth Church. Stroll through the quirky rooms of Litte Moreton Hall, with their crooked walls and uneven floors. Overnight at Crewe Hall Hotel.

DAY 9: BLACK COUNTRY

Experience the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Black Country as you explore the stores, houses and industrial workshops of a rebuilt 1850s iron-working, canal-side town. Explore the remains of a once-spectacular Elizabethan palace in Kenilworth. Overnight near Heathrow airport.

DAY 10: LONDON

Spend the day enjoying London’s top sights with visits to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, and Oxford Street. View the tribute to Jane Austen, as well as many other famous shrines and tombs, at Westminster Abbey. Overnight near Heathrow airport.

DAY 11: RETURN HOME

The tour concludes with hotel check-out by 11 a.m. Arrangements to the airport will be made for those leaving prior to 9 a.m. Early departures or later departures should plan their own transportation.

Tour Pricing And Payment Schedule

The Literary England tour scheduled for June 2024 will be $2,750 based on double occupancy. A $50 discount is given for payment in full at initial deposit; otherwise, the following payment schedule applies, per person:

Non-refundable deposit of $475 reserves spot

Payment of $325 due on Nov 15th, 2023

Payment of $325 due on Dec 15th, 2023

Payment of $325 due on Jan 15th, 2024

Payment of $325 due on Feb 15th, 2024

Payment of $325 due on Mar 15th, 2024

Payment of $325 due on Apr 15th, 2024

Final payment of $325 due on May 15th, 2024

If signing up after any deposit deadline, payment for any previous deposits will be due upon sign-up. Prompt payment is appreciated. Late payments are assessed a $25 late fee.

Tour Inclusions and Exclusions

Included in the tour cost:

Pre-tour information, such as what to pack and how to exchange currency

Expertise of a tour guide throughout the tour

All sight-seeing and visits, as noted in the itinerary (unless otherwise specified)

All on-tour transportation, including trains, local flights, rental vehicles, and buses

One carry-on suitcase and one personal item due to car size restraints

All accommodations, based on double occupancy; typically, 3-star hotels and bed & breakfasts

Not included in the tour cost:

Travel insurance

International airfare and any related expenses

Expenses due to flight delays, strikes, inclement weather or other irregularities

Passport fees, visas and visa photos as required (NEW for 2024 ETIAS visa required for EU)

Personal items such as souvenirs, laundry services, beverages, snacks, and healthcare

Optional excursions as indicated in the itinerary

Meals as indicated in the tour itinerary

Checked baggage fees and excess baggage charges

Liability Waiver and Release Form

Please sign and return the Liability Waiver and Release Form for each tour participant. A parent or guardian must sign the form for any minor participants. A tour request is officially submitted when both the tour deposit and the Waiver and Release form are received by Aticus Travel, LLC for each tour participant.
